About us

With nearly twenty years in the industry, we are proud of how far Machine Serve has come, and we never stop striving to improve!

The Machine Serve journey started back in 2004. Having worked as an agricultural and plant engineer for several years, Phil Davey began Machine Serve as a sole trader, servicing telescopic handlers from his Ford Transit and a rented workshop. Covering the whole of the south west area he soon built on his already good reputation for servicing and repairs.

Having moved to a bigger workshop and expanded to employ some staff,  Machine Serve then formed an enduring partnership with Multiquip to supply and service their range of small plant and concreting equipment.

Machine Serve has helped to promote agricultural and plant products from manufacturers such as: Arrowhead, Teagle, NC Engineering and Twose and has a strong presence with Hall Engineering attachments.

Phil and his family purchased Cloudberry Farm near Winkleigh, complete with outbuildings, which allowed him to relocate the business to its current site.

Phil’s knowledge of hydraulics and all things mechanical has helped immensely when guiding customers to purchase attachments that don’t simply work but instead perform in 100% harmony with the machines they are fitted to. So the logical next step for the business was to take on more excavator attachment sales and some complicated hydraulic modifications.

Hanix excavators sold really well at this time and were a mainstay of the business. However, in 2017 Hanix stopped the production of excavators.  This led Phil to look for opportunities with other brands who would provide the same level of quality.

Phil found a brand he was passionate to sell and service, and in 2017 Machine Serve commenced selling Yanmar Construction Equipment as a dealer. The Yanmar brand have a very long and respected history as an engine manufacturer going back to 1912. As of 2022, they have just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the YFW500D, the world’s first tracked carrier equipped with a Yanmar diesel engine.

Machine Serve started dealing direct with Yanmar Construction Europe. This made a huge difference to the price of machines and spare parts and has meant that Machine Serve and Yanmar are well placed to be competitive in the UK’s post-Brexit marketplace.

Machine Serve was proud to be able to support the construction and agricultural sectors through lockdown. Business growth created the need for a larger back-office team, which unfortunately coincided with a difficult time globally and unusual working conditions. It was a testament to the Machine Serve team that everyone pulled together and adapted to these changes. They were still able to enhance relationships for both new and existing customers with their dedicated service and excellent after-sales care.

2022- Phil’s update:

What a year this is so far. It’s been great, but a lot of graft has gone in. We have added Yanmar Agricultural tractors to our sales offering, with their fantastic 5-year warranty. A massive new building has gone up and although far from finished, it is now sealed and secured. The workshop, which has now doubled in size, is in use. The parts department, which has been practically spilling out the doors, is slowly being moved over to the new building, and a showroom for the machinery is really doing its job well. The staff are great; Mike has now got Nick working alongside him in the parts department and between them their knowledge, humour and enthusiasm is really pushing up our parts sales. The service department is running better than Phil has ever seen with a great team consisting of Mick, Matt, Louis and Tom. Backed up by the back-office team, Sarah and Nikki, ensuring a smooth administration both for Machine Serve and you the customer. Phil is still working hard as ever to run the business and keep up with sales and probably the next step will be a new sales person, so watch this space!
